On October 14, Varsity cheer received first place and the title of Grand Champion at the Westminster Invitational. They received a 3-point deduction in a flip that the judges thought released too early as well as a .25 deduction for a bobble. Varsity went home with a final score of 119.95.

JV also took home a first place trophy with a final score of 108.6–.15 points less than the second place Varsity team, Northwest.

The team hopes to win the county title, as they have 11 times in both fall and winter.

“We are just working on the little things now: timing, facials, clean motions, and clean transitions. The little things are crucial because we need to make sure the judges can see everything clearly,” said Varsity head coach Amy Rumburg.

Towards the end of pyramid, the music stopped playing. This can be fairly common at cheer competitions, and the audience continued counting out the routine. Varsity carried on the routine without hesitation, delivering the rest of their routine with confidence.

“It’s always upsetting when the music stops, especially when our dance features a slow motion part which wasn’t quite able to reach its full effect,” said varsity member Charlotte Koogle.

Varsity’s captains are seniors Madi Lindung and Shannon Kleinmann as well as juniors Katelyn Bindel and Sofia Toccalino.

The Frederick County Cheerleading Competition is on Monday, October 21 held at Governor Thomas Johnson High School. Doors open at 6:15 p.m. and the competition starts at 7 p.m.
