On September 13, the Pom and Dance team performed a dance with girls ages K-8th at the first home game. Beginning the previous Monday, the Pom team hosted a clinic throughout the week in order to teach the girls the routine and prepare them for the performance.
On the night of the game, the clinic girls arrived at the school at 6 pm to review the dance. They performed with the team during third quarter.
The pom members helped to arrange the girls into their designated spots and then waited for the music to start.
The crowd was ecstatic to see all the young girls out on our turf, dancing and representing our school.
“I thought the dance was adorable, and it really demonstrated how the older girls put their time and effort into coming together to help those younger girls, who look up to them. They definitely showed them what it was like to be a Lancer for the night!” commented Class of 2021 member, Skylar Stevenson.
During the clinic the previous week, the older girls taught stretching exercises and some basic technique, including turns and leaps. They were then split into age groups and taught slightly different versions of the dance in accordance to skill level and speed.
Senior and head captain, Lizzie Hall said, “It’s definitely a different teaching style and you just have to learn what works and doesn’t work with them. Patience is the most important key to teaching kids.”
