On October 12, Oakdale High School hosted an annual JV regional volleyball tournament, inviting 10 teams from around the region to compete.

“The tournament was an overall positive, enjoyable, and competitive day. We ended up going 8-2, finishing 3rd out of 11 teams,” said sophomore Lauren Spect. Spect is a team captain and defensive specialist on the team.

The JV team went 8-0 in there “Pool Play” rounds during the morning of the tournament. They played hard and worked at communicating as best as they could each match, which lead them to early victories against other teams in the region.

Audrey Kilgore, the outside hitter on the JV volleyball team, was awarded the “All Tournament Team Player,” an award given by the tournament administrators for her quality of play that day.

“We went undefeated in pool play, and the whole team played hard all day. It made me super happy to be recognized for my performance,” said Kilgore.

October is breast cancer awareness month, and the tournament administrators had the competitors play with pink volleyballs. The JV team also contributed to the special recognition by wearing white and pink socks to show support.

JV and Varsity volleyball teams have their next game at home against Walkersville on October 15 at 5:30 p.m. for their “Dig Pink” breast cancer awareness match.

Be sure to come out and wear pink to show your support during breast cancer awareness month.
