On September 5, the varsity volleyball team bested the Manchester Valley Mavericks in three games in a best of five match scrimmage at Manchester Valley High School. The JV girls team also beat the JV Mavericks in straight sets.

This was the last scrimmage in the varsity preseason, and the Lancers dismantled the Mavericks in a dominant fashion. The Lancers won their first game 25-9, followed up with a controlling 25-12 victory in the second game, and closed out their scrimmage in a tight third game, with a score of 25-21.

Senior Reagan Walsh was content with the team’s performance, and wasn’t shy to point out the terrific play of her teammates. “We played with a lot of intensity, and Piper Shields was a key to us winning tonight. She had a lot of strong hits throughout. Emma France also contributed by putting the ball down on every set that she got a handle on.”

Walsh was very optimistic about the team’s upcoming season, attributing her hope to the wealth of experience on the team. “We have a stronger team than we did last year. We have a really solid lineup that is full of club players who play year-round and I think we have the potential to go farther in the playoffs than we have in the past.”

Follow the girls’  volleyball team as the Lancers play their next match on Tuesday, September 10 against the Smithsburg Leopards at Smithsburg High School. The JV match starts at 5:30, and the varsity match starts at 7:00.
