On October 15, the varsity field hockey seniors were honored in a sentimental senior night ceremony.

The game itself was played against Frederick High School and finished with a score of 5-0, the home team coming out on top. At the end of the game, the seniors were accompanied by their parents as they walked across the field. During the walk, their achievements and gratitude were read aloud.

The parents of the seniors also constructed posters to showcase their child’s growth through the years.

There were eight seniors honored, which makes up for almost half of the team.

Shannon Coggins (3), Kayla Freeman (6), Clare Beiter (7), Ashley Ridgely (8), Emily Cole (14), Ashley Martin (19), Gabbi Young (18), and Olivia Geisler (22) were all celebrated after the game with flowers, gifts, and cake.

Senior night is riddled with many emotions, but an overlying theme of gratitude seemed to grace the team.

“I am so grateful for my time on this team. I’ve met many girls that I never would have without field hockey, and they’ve become some of my closest friends. I’m definitely going to miss playing with so many great people,” said Cole.

Senior Gabbi Young was able to start the play off in the second half of the game after her ALC injury occurred before the season began.

Gabbi Young, a senior defenseman, tore her ALC before the season started, but was able to take the field and start each half.

With excitement carrying the night, the Lady Lancers dominated both halves. There were 19 total shots on goal and 10 offensive corners. Sophomore goalie Taylor Carroll was alone at the other end of the field with nothing to defend.

The next game is October 17 against South Carroll at South Carroll.
