Boys track and field falls short at state championship: Photo of the Day 5/28/19

Carter Holsinger wins his fourth state pole vault title.

Saturday, May 25 the Boys Track and Field Team competed in the state championship meet at Morgan State University. The boys didn’t win this season but came close, placing fourth overall with 39.5 points. Huntingtown High School won with 58 points.

The meet was held over a span of two very hot days, which took a toll on many athletes. The 4×800 Relay team didn’t qualify for states which ended up hurting the final score.

Carter Holsinger won the pole vault, and Michael Belmaggio, won the 3200 meter.

Holsinger won with a 13’ vault, his PR is 15’4. “Usually I don’t get nervous, but this time there was a lot of pressure. I didn’t break my record, but I was relieved to win,” said Holsinger.

Belmaggio won the 3200 in 9:28.82. His PR is 9:25.97. “I was really happy about winning. I think I had a smart race and was glad to contribute to the team’s score,” said Belmaggio.

Another athlete who stood out was Will Cioffi. During the 1600 Cioffi placed second and set a new school record of 4:20.61.

with the graduation of several powerful seniors, the team hopes to build some of the younger members to take their places.
