Week 5: Walkersville pregame with Coach Conner

Walkersville vs. Linganore

Last year against Walkersville wasn’t the best performance by Linganore’s varsity football team. In a 40-10 loss, Walkersville was led by Senior Jacob Wetzel. Even with Wetzel gone this year, Walkersville is still a top team in the 2A division and in Frederick County.

Their commander-in-chief Elias Baroudi is a very talented quarterback. At 6″3′, Baroudi can throw the football with great precision and can also run the ball if the pocket collapses.

But even with Baroudi at QB, Walkersville’s biggest offensive threats come from running back Josiah Jones and fullback Alonso Hoes. Jones is a Howard University recruit as a sophomore and can cause trouble if he gets into the secondary. Hoes is a big fullback that creates amazing blocks for Jones and his other backs.

On defense, Hoes is also one of the team’s best pass rushers at defensive end. His partner-in-crime is Myles Roberts and, together, they can create issues for an offense.

One of the biggest keys Linganore has to do in order to win against Walkersville this year is that they need to score early in the game and gain a solid lead by halftime. Walkersville struggles when they are behind in a game, partly because they run the ball more than they pass.

Coach Conner said, “Walkersville is always a good team. They’re stacked at the running back position and have a solid defense. It should be a good game. It should be a fun game.”
