Week 4: Varsity football tries for 4-0 against TJ with Johan Samayoa and Joey Felton

September 21, 2018

Coming off of a major win in Game 3 against Westminster, varsity football has been preparing for their home game against Governor Thomas Johnson High School. Even though this game is not expected to be one of the team’s more challenging ones, they are still gearing up for anything.

“We’ve practiced all week for TJ. We’re prepared for them and their scheme, just like any other week,” said running back Johan Samayoa.

So far in the season, TJ has struggled, scoring only 6 points total–a record of 0-3. After last year’s 3A championship, the varsity team has ranked up to 9 in the state, but TJ had a crushing loss last week to Walkersville with a final score of 42-0.

“We have to be ready for the counter runs and the reverse runs. We need to make sure we understand where to shift,” said Conner.

With an almost perfect game last week, varsity’s defense showed that they are one of the best in the county. Varsity’s linebackers in particular were a massive contribution to Linganore’s Week 3 win.

“They’ve [the defense] really been working hard. They’re starting to come together as a unit, if they keep this up they’re only going to continue to get better,” said Coach O’Connor.

On the offense, Joey Felton said, “Efficiency is our number one factor coming into the game against TJ. We need to run the ball right down their throat.”

The run game last week consistently led to touchdowns as backs like Samayoa, Xander McClure, and Joey Bruscia carried for several yards.

Last year, Linganore beat TJ in a landslide win of 41-0. Will the Lancers triumph again? The game starts at 7:00 p.m.
