Week 3 pregame huddle with Ben Musselman and Cole Mitchell
September 14, 2018
After the huge win against Edgewood and receiver Joey Felton having an outstanding game with 331 all-purpose yards, Linganore prepares to take on Westminster. Last year, Linganore and Westminster brawled in the 3A West region final game. The game went down to the wire and ended with Linganore winning 16-14.
This year, Westminster has quarterback Christian Etchinson, who against Urbana, threw for 3 touchdowns. In the South Hagerstown matchup, Etchinson had 2 rushing touchdowns to lead the Owls to a 19-18 victory.
His coach in a Varsity Sports Network article said, “If he doesn’t have a receiver open, he’ll take off.”
“We have to force him [Etchinson] to step up in the pocket. Coach has been working with us to get pressure on him,” said defensive end Cole Mitchell.
For the secondary, defensive back Ben Musselman said, “They’ve got some athletic guys at the receiver position. But we’ve also got a really athletic defense. We can’t let the receivers run by us; we have to keep them in front of us.”
Going into this game, the biggest aspect I see is that if the defensive backs can shut down their wide receivers, the front seven should be able to force Etchinson to scramble and, hopefully, lead to some sacks.
