On March 14th, the Lancer marching band departed for Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, for a six-day trip filled with excitement, magic, and music.  The culminating event was the Main Street parade on March 17.

The group traveled by charter bus, for what ended up being an estimated 35 hour round trip. They stayed at Disney’s Pop Century resort, filled with many large representations of popular items and, “fads” throughout the twentieth century, complete with a computer shaped pool, and stairwells designed like rubix cubes and cell phones.

The band was able to experience all four parks, go for a swim, enjoy the Orlando warm weather, and, most importantly, march in the Magic Kingdom Main Street parade.  They performed their classic parade selection “Patriots on Parade.”

Class of 2021 Arwen Creswell, trumpet player in the marching and concert bands, said, “It was a great experience. I was able to make so many memories with my friends, all while doing what I love.”

The band also enjoyed experiencing all of the different, “countries” at Epcot. All students were required to visit at least three countries, as well as complete a reflection indicating what they learned and what they enjoyed. Many students particularly enjoyed purchasing food unique to each country and buying souvenirs. Others enjoyed the exhibits and attractions.

The marching band will be traveling again to New York in spring 2019 and will be returning to Disney in 2020.
