This year was one to remember for its great movies. We enjoyed successful movies such as Beauty and the Beast, Dunkirk, or Wonder Woman and many more. However, there are also lots of new movies coming to get excited for in 2018. Here are my top 10 new movies to look forward to in 2018:

Maze Runner: The Death Cure – January 26

This will be the third movie in the series. The first two movies The Maze Runner and Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials came out in 2014 and 2015. The series has been very successful so far. People have loved the movies, even if many say they were not as good as the books. The new movie is about Thomas leading the Gladers on their final and hardest mission yet. In order to save their friends, they have to break into the Last City, which might be the deadliest maze of all. Anyone who makes it out alive will get answers to the questions the Gladers have asked since they entered the maze.

A Wrinkle in Time – March 9

This movie, based on the book, is about 2 siblings, whose father is a scientist. They have been without him for five years, ever since he discovered a new planet. The children want to travel to the planet as well, and eventually go there with a classmate and three other travelers. However, the planet possesses all the evil in the universe, so they have to figure out how to make it back out. Since the movie is based on a very popular book, most people who have read the book are eager to see the movie. Although the movie is often not as good as the book, many people still want to see how the book was remade into the upcoming movie.

Midnight Sun – March 23

This romantic drama is about a girl who has a rare disease that prevents her from going out in the sun. After she goes outside in the nighttime to play her guitar, she meets Charlie, on whom she has had a crush for years. Throughout the summer, they go on nightly adventures and build a close relationship. However, every night she gets closer to seeing the sun and she has to figure out if she can keep living this way. This movie has been awaited for many months now. People are excited to see this new love story because it has a lot of emotional meaning.

Avengers: Infinity War – May 4

So far, there are two Avengers movies. Another one is scheduled for 2019, along with Infinity War. Fans have waited for a new movie in this series since 2015, and are excited to see more. In this movie, the Avengers come back together to battle their strongest enemy yet. The villain, Thanos is planning to make his twisted will a reality. The safety and existence of the planet lays in the hands of the Avengers and everything they have fought for has led up to this moment. The Avengers series is one of Marvel’s most popular movie series because it incorporates lots of different superheroes and characters. Luckily, after this movie, fans will only have to wait about a year for another movie.

Incredibles 2 – June 15

Although the first part of this ‘incredible’ movie came out 14 years ago, as soon as the second part was announced, people could not stop talking about it. A movie that came out so long ago and still receives this much attention is sure to be good. In the second movie, Elastigirl is busy saving the world, while her husband, Mr. Incredible faces the challenge of taking care of their three children. The movie takes place only a few moments after the end of the first one and kicks off right where the other one started. Even though it came out so long ago, it has been one of the most popular Disney movies and families everywhere enjoy it. 

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom – June 22

After four previous films, there is still excitement surrounding this new movie in the series. This movie takes place four years after the Jurassic World theme park was destroyed. Two dinosaur researchers return to Isla Nublar to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from a volcano ready to explode. We’ve seen clips and short videos from the movie since late November and people are getting more and more excited for the release of this anticipated movie. Although dinosaur movies can be somewhat predictable, they are still interesting to watch. We might wonder if someday we can actually bring dinosaurs back to life or what would happen if we did. Every movie also brings new problems the dinosaur researchers have to face, which makes it interesting and exciting to watch.

The Purge: The Island – July 4

This movie will be the fourth in The Purge film series, but it is a prequel to the first ones. These dystopian action horror films focus on the main idea of an annual government “tradition” where anything is legal for 12 hours. People are able to do anything (including murder) that would otherwise be illegal. The past movies The Purge, The Purge: Anarchy and The Purge: Election Year have been very popular, especially among teens and young adults. The first one came out in 2013 and they are still in the process of making a new one. The newest addition will be about how the annual purge night started. In the first round of the purge Staten Island, New York becomes the desired place for the crimes to occur. It paves a way for a new American tradition, where the crimes become worse every year.  

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again – July 20

Although it took ten years for the second movie for this series to come out, we are finally getting a sequel to the very successful first part, based on Mamma Mia the musical. This romantic comedy musical features huge actors such as Cher, Lily James, and Meryl Streep. It is about three characters, Donna, Sam, and Harry, who forged relationships that still resonate in the present time. The movie is being released almost exactly eight years after the first part, only two days later. Fans have been waiting on a sequel for years and are very excited about the addition. The first part has become a classic to many people who enjoy these types of romantic comedies. 

Christopher Robin – August 3

This will be Disney’s sixth live action movie, based on an older Disney movie. Being one of Disney’s newest live action movies, this movie will focus on Christopher Robin, instead of the original main character, Winnie the Pooh. Christopher Robin is now a working-class family man, who is very busy with his day to day schedule of balancing work and his family. He also lost his sense of imagination. However, when he comes back to the Hundred Acre Wood, where he reunites with Winnie the Pooh, he learns something new. The bear helps Christopher Robin rediscover the joys of life and how to live freely again. Many people who watched Winnie the Pooh in their childhood are happy to be able to see the character in theaters again even if it is so many years later. 

Mary Poppins Returns – December 25

This movie is set in London in the 1930s Depression Era. Michael and Jane are now all grown up and have families of their own. Their childhood nanny, Mary Poppins comes back to England to get to know their children. Mary Poppins, which came out in 1964, is the prequel to this new movie and tells the story of Jane and Michael as children with their nanny Mary Poppins. Although there have been complaints about the movie because Julie Andrews will not be playing Mary Poppins again, it is still worth looking forward too. Instead, she will be portrayed by Emily Blunt, which is exciting because we get to see a new interpretation of Mary Poppins.
