On December 19, the Greenbelt Police Department K9, Brett, made an appearance in Mrs. Kate Lane’s independent living class. Some of the Little Lancers from the child development class stopped by to see the excitement as well.

Brett, the 10 year-old German Sheppard, was prepared to tackle any task. Although he has been retired for a few years, he was as energetic as ever. He performed tasks such as fetch, following a scent, laying down and heeling.

Independent living class member Sierra Bennett, said, “Today I learned that being a police officer is really difficult. They have to be willing to give up anything in their life for their job. I didn’t know anything about the K9 unit until today. The dog is very well trained, and also, super cute.”

The K9 was paid for by the famous NFL quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger. “Big Ben” created The Ben Roethlisberger Foundation,  which donates money to support fire departments and police canine units throughout the country.

Thank you to the Greenbelt Police Force for bringing your K9, Brett.
