On March 17th, the Linganore High School Marching Band took to 5th Avenue in New York City to march in the (extensive) St. Patrick’s Day parade.

The parade was 40 blocks long, stretching past many famous sites in New York City, such as St. Patrick’s Cathedral, the 5th Avenue Apple Store and many other name-brand anchor stores.

The time frame of the parade lasted from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The parade contained over 375 different organizations and groups marching, or in many cases, walking, in the parade.

Mellophone player Annie Watsic said, “It was tiring but yet there’s something about doing parades and seeing people happy to see us that makes the pain worthwhile. I guess that’s what makes people grow a strong passion for marching.”

Colorguard member Caroline Etherton said, “I think it’s really cool to have the experience of going to NYC with the whole band and marching in such a large parade that has so much energy and just everyone is so happy!”

In addition to marching in the parade, the band also got to visit the 9/11 Memorial and museum, One World Observatory, Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum, Top of the Rock and more.

Currently, the band (and various subset groups like the percussion ensemble) are rehearsing music for the upcoming spring concert and other events. The spring concert is on May 4.
