On the evening of May 4th, the many of the second semester instrumental groups, including Freshman Concert Band, String Orchestra and the Symphonic Band, came together to perform their spring concert.

The Freshman Concert Band and Symphonic Band are under the direction of Mr. Kevin Lloyd, while the String Orchestra and Symphonic Orchestra are under the direction of Mr. Damon Dye.

Throughout the concert as groups performed, the groups with senior members took a moment to recognize each senior. For many, this was the last concert of their high school career.

Sophomore violin player Alexis Duda said, “We were rehearsing so much for our concert between having the String Orchestra and the Full [Symphonic] Orchestra. We were pressed for time since we only have a semester to get ready for the concert.”

Students who are a part of the String Orchestra and Symphonic Orchestra rehearse during first period. Students in the Freshman Band rehearse during second period, and the Symphonic Band rehearses after school on Tuesdays.

Duda said, “It turned out much better than what I expected at least, Mr. Dye is a fantastic conductor and brought the music to life.”  At the spring adjudication, the String Orchestra received all “superior” ratings.

The second part of the concert comes on May 9th, at 7:00 pm in the auditorium. The second concert will feature the Percussion Ensemble and the Jazz Ensemble. Tickets are $5.
