Lindsey Russo lists her favorite songs of 2017.

1. “Despacito Remix” by Luis Fonzi and Daddy Yankee ft Justin Bieber

“Despacito” was a very popular song in 2017. It was loved by a lot of people because it made a song in Spanish really popular in America and raised awareness for Latin music. Even though this has happened with many different Latin songs already, this is one of the most recent ones that have had huge success. The video for “Despacito” topped YouTube’s year-end of rankings of the most popular music videos of 2017. The collaboration between Luis Fonzi and Daddy Yankee had gotten 4.5 billion views and its the only video to surpass 4 billion thresholds. 

2. “Sign of the Times” by Harry Styles

“Sign of the Times” was the most listened to song from his solo debut album since he had left One Direction. It hit number one on Billboard and on Twitter it was trending 140 charts and it had measured the acceleration around artists and their music on Twitter. His music video is over 250 million views. It had sold 62,900 copies in its first week and was listened to a lot. I like this song because it is very calm and catchy. “We never learn, we been here before

3.“Bodak Yellow” by Cardi B

“Bodak Yellow” is performed by a girl rapper and most rappers aren’t girls. She’s also Latina. Her song topped the #1 spot on R&B/Hip-Hop single sales after having to sit at #2 for two weeks. 55,492 units moved and helped her dethrone Post Malone and 21 Savage’s “Rockstar.” I like this song because it is very enthusiastic and has been featured on the radio a lot which lead it to become more popular.

4. “Rockstar” by Post Malone

“Rockstar” was a popular song in 2017. It reached billboards top 100 and it was number one. It was also number one on the Streaming Songs chart with 54.3 million us streams (6 percent) in October according to Nielsen Music. It rose 3-2 on Digital Songs Sale up to 14 percent with 54,000 downloads sold in the week of October 19th (the end of the week) and surges 38-26 on Radio Songs with 48 million. I like this song because Post Malone has very good music especially this song because it is on the radio a lot. 

5. “Something Just Like This” by The Chainsmokers

“Something Just Like This” debuted at number 56 on the Billboard top 100 hits. It was released as the second song from The Chainsmokers debut album “Memories… Do Not Open.” on February 22. The song is nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 60th annual Grammys awards. They earned a trio of nominations including a Best Dance Recording win for “Don’t Let Me Down.” I like this song because I have seen them in concert and they are really catchy and have deep meanings towards their songs.

6. “1-800-273-8255” by Logic

“1-800-273-8255” was a popular in 2017. It raised suicide prevention and encourages people to seek help. The song’s name is a number which is for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. It received a Grammy Award nomination for Song of the Year. Logic has gone to the 2017 MTV Music Video Awards. He said “I like to always do my best to make music catchy, so I think a very catchy melody is cool. But the fact that it does spread awareness is also something that’s really special.” on Newsweek. I like this song because it is very motivational towards people who are depressed.

7. “I’m the One” by Dj Khaled

“I’m the One” was a popular song in 2017. Justin Bieber is the featured artist as well as Quavo, Chance the Rapper and Lil Wayne. It was THE SONG in the summer and a lot of people listened to it. It was the hottest tracks of the season and it was killing the Billboard Hot 100. Dj Khaled explained that when he has a vision he is determined to make it happen. I like the song because it is also very catchy and my favorite line from the song is “Yeah, you’re sick of all those other imitators. Don’t let the only real one intimidate you. See you watchin’, don’t run outta time now. I’m the one, yeah”

8. “Look What You Made Me Do” by Taylor Swift

“Look what you made me do” was really catchy and it was Taylor Swift’s new song in over two years. The song broke a string of records including the record for most plays in a single day on Spotify. It topped the charts Australia, Canada, Croatia, the Czech Republic, etc… It has received Platinum certifications in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Italy, and the United States. The song received a mixed response from music critics with a division from Swifts stylistic change.

9. “Bad and Boujee” by Migos

“Bad and Boujee” was a popular song in 2017. It was a rap song and it became very famous in a short period of time because they made memes on Twitter made compilations on Youtube. It also became a billboard hit. His most popular line was “Rain Drop, Drop Top” and many people made memes about this on Twitter. I like this song because it has been featured on the radio a lot and it is a very energetic song.

10. “Malibu” by Miley Cyrus

“Malibu” was a popular song in 2017. She was a new Miley again and not a lot of people expected it. It also became very famous. It became her ninth top ten entry on the US Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number ten. The song is about her relationship with Liam Hemsworth and was inspired by him. I like this song because it is very different from Miley’s old songs including her popular songs like “The Climb.” My favorite lyrics from her song are “I always thought I would sink, so I never swam. I never went boatin’, don’t get how they are floatin’. And sometimes I get so scared of what I can’t understand.”
