On February 3, 12 athletes gathered with their families, friends, coaches, and other students to sign their National Letters of Intent. One of those athletes was Tyler Fleagle. Fleagle committed to United States Military Academy West Point to continue his football career.

Fleagle made first team all-county for the Frederick News Post both his junior and senior years as a defensive tackle.

In addition to playing football in the fall, Fleagle also plays on the varsity boys basketball team. He is a hard worker on the field and the court.

Fleagle knew West Point would be the next step in his life when he visited the school in August. “It was overwhelming how beautiful it is,” Feagle said.

He had other options, such as Old Dominion, which at one time was his number one choice.

He is really looking forward to the brotherhood that he will experience and all of the hard work that he knows will pay off.

“I like things that make me work hard. I don’t like if I don’t have a challenge to overcome. I don’t want something to be easy. This is just a great fit for me,” Fleagle said.

One challenge Fleagle recently had to overcome was a hamstring injury that endured for much of the 2015 fall season. During his first game after recovery, he made a game-winning extra point block in overtime against Walkersville (7-6 ).

Fleagle will see many changes in himself as he attends West Point.

“Having to see him go through all of the different physical changes like having to get his head shaved” is one thing Fleagle’s mother, LeAnn Fleagle, said she is nervous about.

While Fleagle is attending West Point, he will be studying management. He is looking forward to all of the job opportunities that will be available for him when he is graduates.

Fleagle is highlighted in an article by the Fredrick News Post detailing more about his journey to West Point.
