Musselman signs to Slippery Rock University football
February 9, 2016
Among those who committed to colleges on National Signing Day, varsity quarterback Nathaniel Musselman joined Slippery Rock University.
Musselman has been playing football since he was six.
“Ever since I was a little kid I’ve always dreamed of playing college football,” he said.
Musselman has an MD rank of 26 and 986 total passing yards in his Linganore football career. After transferring from Walkersville High as a sophomore, Musselman became quarterback.
Throughout his football career, he said that his biggest supporter is his father. Musselman’s father, Duane Musselman, also played on Linganore’s football team when he was in high school in the class of 1991.
Mr. Musselman said, “I like to think we started a tradition of winning state championships.”
Over the years he said he has seen his son grow most as a player. “Mostly in his work ethic. He’s in the weight room or throwing somewhere a lot and learning how to be a leader.”
Musselman and his parents all like different aspects of the college, Slippery Rock. Musselman said that what he likes most is “The brotherhood and the way they treat each other. It’s like one big family.”
His mother, who was also an athlete at Linganore, likes how family-oriented Slippery Rock is, and his father likes “The winning tradition that they have. They want to win a national championship which is very appealing. Plus it’s in a good location.” Located in Pennsylvania, the football program won the PSAC in 2015 last season, and earned West Division Titles in 2011, 2013, 2014, and 2015.
In college, Musselman plans to study either business or criminal justice. The main difference between college and high school football, Musselman said, is that “It’s a lot more commitment and a lot more work to manage football and college classes.”
Mrs. Musselman said that what she’s most excited about for her son is that “He can continue to further his education but at the same time keep doing what he loves.”
Musselman said that what he will miss most about playing on Linganore’s team is “My teammates: my relationship with them is really strong and we’re all going our separate ways now.”
After signing Nathaniel said, “First of all, I’d like to thank my family, friends, and teammates, and good luck to Wade and Jack.”
Coach Conner, when speaking about Musselman, commented that two other Linganore football athelter, Wade Steiren and Jack Staub, will be playing in the same conference as Musselman. Their teams will go head to head against Slippery Rock, which is sure to be an exciting reunion for these young football players in college.
