Zack and Weston prepare for their entrance at Mr. Linganore 2016

Zack Yurich felt the need…the need for speed, and the need for a Mr. Linganore crown.

Yurich chose the character Maverick as his trendsetter because he started the aviator sunglasses trend, and he happens to love the movie.

During his entrance, Yurich and Weston Barrett, who played the character Goose, “flew” into the auditorium in a cardboard aviator plane. They even sang You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling a cappella to Yurich’s escort, Urbana senior Kallie Majka.

“Weston really helped me the most,” said Yurich.

Yurich may not have won the Mr. LHS title, but he did win the talent portion of the show with his “Beach Ball Ballet” routine. In the routine, Yurich and his older brother, Matt, dressed in pink ballet costumes, and effortless rolled a beach ball using their chests, arms, and even heads. The dramatic music, “Turn Around” by Bonnie Tyler, added humor and mock emotion. At the end of the performance, Kyle Johnson, a Mr. Linganore 2015 contestant, “interrupted” from the audience, joined the boys on stage, and suggested ping pong ball ballet, starting a wave of laughter in the audience.

“Beach ball ballet with my brother was my favorite memory of the night,” said Yurich. “Mr. Linganore was one of the best memories of high school. It felt great to perform in front of everyone.”
