On October 22 the Girls Varsity Soccer team played Urbana for the CMC championship game. Sadly, they lost 1-0 off a corner kick.

This is the second time the girls played Urbana in the 2016 season. Last time, the girls lost 2-0. After the first game, Coach Phil Werner said, “The girls played a great game. During times of the game, it looked like a soccer clinic.”

In this game, the Lancers missed three open chances to tie the Hawks. Urbana scored in the 17th minute of the game and the Lancers were on their heels to catch up. Ashley Yurich tried to tie the score off a corner but missed wide. Lauren Albano’s shot was saved by Urbana goalkeeper, Hannah Goodacre.

Senior Captain, Meredith Lapen said, “This game wasn’t the one that really counts. The next game will be the big game where we need to play our hearts out.”

The girls have a chance to play Urbana again this time in a do-or-die situation. This will be the third time and final time that the teams face each other this year. To get to this game the ladies must beat South Hagerstown on Thursday, October 27th and the winner of the Governor Thomas Johnson vs. Frederick Game.

The cost of playoff games is $5 for both students and parents. Come out on Thursday to support your Lady Lancers.
