Over spring break, the marching band took a trip to Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL. The band was the largest of three to march in a parade in Magic Kingdom on March 24.
The band took the 18 hour drive down on Sunday, March 20, and back on Friday March 25. The trip was organized by band director, Mr.Kevin Lloyd and staff member Mr.Jeremy Brown. The marching band alternates every year, visiting Disney during spring break one year, and marching in New York City’s St. Patrick’s Day parade the next.
The band lodged in Disney’s Pop Century Resort, where the resort buildings are divided into the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s. Band members and their chaperones resided in the 70’s building. Everyone had the opportunity to visit Animal Kingdom, EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, and Magic Kingdom during their time in Orlando, and those who had reservations visited the shopping district, Disney Springs.
Senior and band member Maria Pellicier said, “My favorite part about the trip was getting to spend time with my friends before we all leave for college.”
The parade started just beside the Splash Mountain ride, and ended just at the entrance of Magic Kingdom. Parents and supporters gathered on top of the train depot to cheer on the students. The band was escorted by a cast member who is regularly featured in Disney parades. At the end of the parade, band members were given the title “honorary cast members,” and each were given Mickey Mouse ears. The band earned a “Golden Mickey” trophy.
