Trucks, Bikes, and Cars, Oh my: Lancers Make It Happen plans second annual car show
The Lancers Make it Happen club is hosting their second annual auto show. This year, the event will be held on Sunday, May 22, from 10 am to 2 pm in the Linganore front parking lot. Last year, the show brought in more than $1,200, a huge success.
There is a five dollar minimum donation to register your vehicle.
Lancers Make It Happen (LMIH) is an organization run by high school students in order to support Twin Ridge Elementary, New Market Elementary, and Liberty Elementary students who are living in poverty. Nearly 10% of local students live with poverty.
During the school year, these students are supported through Frederick County Public Schools programs, such as free and reduced meals, but during the summer months, these children do not have access many basic needs, and certainly not entertainment ‘extras.’
With the donations, LMIH plans to fill 300 drawstring bags with supplies in order for these underprivileged children to better enjoy summer. The LMIH club was created last year by Mrs. Samantha Survey’s twelfth grade Studies and Composition class, originally as a persuasive research project.
Spectators can make a cash donation or donate any of the following items:
Bubbles
Sidewalk Chalk
Jump Ropes
Coloring Books
Puzzle Games
Card Games
Sunscreen
Hand Sanitizer
Band-Aids
Pencils
Flashcards
The event is sponsored by Bobby’s Garage. There will be three Best in Show cash prizes– Truck, Motorcycle, and Car. Concessions by In10se BBQ will be available.
If you are not able to attend the event, donations are accepted. Contact Samantha Servey at [email protected] in order to arrange for a donation pick-up, or a check can be made to LHS- Lancers Make It Happen.
The stress and misery of childhood poverty is too heavy a load for one to carry. Replace some of the anxiety and tension children carry with a backpack full of summer fun.
Your donation will support the student journalists of Linganore High School. Your contribution will allow us to purchase camera/recording equipment and software. We hope to raise enough money to re-start a monthly printed issue of our paper.
