Any student interested in joining the Backpacking Club can meet in Mr. Dye’s room D113 on Club “B” days.  We will be talking about trails, gear, conditioning and basic bush craft techniques.  All of this will help you when going on your next adventure on the Appalachian Trail!

The Career and Technology Open House is Thursday, October 27th, from 6:00-8:00 pm. See the 25 career programs that CTC provides FCPS students.  Learn about “Potential Careers: Find Out How to Jump Start Your Future at CTC”!  If you are not able to attend the Open House, please stop by Student Services to pick up a shadowing form.  All students who plan to attend CTC next year, must first shadow their program of interest in order to apply.

Starting Wednesday, November 2nd, Linganore students will have an additional meal option:  a burrito line!  The burrito line consists of the choice of a bowl or a burrito, two selections of rice, two kinds of beans, corn, three choices of meat, and lots of toppings – even sour cream and guacamole!   This meal option costs the same as the current options.  Try it out!

Members of the Science National Honor Society are reminded of this Saturday, October 28th, workday at the Audrey Carroll Audubon Sanctuary from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm.  Students should wear work shoes and bring hand saws, shears, and work gloves.  Students will continue to improve the walking trails at the sanctuary.

Juniors: Do you enjoy science or computer classes?   Are you considering a career in the medical field? Applications are now being accepted for the Werner H. Kirsten Student Intern Program at the National Cancer Institute.  As a scientific intern, you would learn the basic methods of biomedical research through “hands-on” laboratory training.  Internships are also available in the areas of IT, graphics and media, scientific writing, data analysis and bioinformatics.  For more information, see Ms. Radil-Harris or Mr. Brown in room C103 or talk to any science teacher.

Now for sports related news…

Any girl interested in trying out for the JV or Varsity basketball team should see Coach Easterday to sign up.

Last night, JV cheerleading placed first out of five teams and Varsity cheerleading placed first out of eleven teams at their competitions at FSK High School.  It was a clean sweep as both teams won for the pyramid competition, stunting competition, and the overall routine.  The Lancers will compete at the Frederick County Cheer Competition next Wednesday, November 2nd, at Urbana High School.

And now for “Would You Rather?” Wednesday.

Last time, we asked if you would rather hang out with Hannah Montana or Miley Cyrus. The poll ended in a tie, each scoring 13 votes.

This week, “Would you rather trick or treat?”  Vote on the lhslancertv twitter page.

That’s all we have for you today. To replay this video or watch previous announcements, visit schooltube.com and search for lhslancertv.

Until next time, have a Witchy Wednesday, Linganore.
