This week outside the cafeteria, tickets for the homecoming dance are on sale for 22$ each. Students can nominate the homecoming court, too.

The homecoming dance will be October 8th,  from 8- 10 pm. The dance will follow at the end of spirit week. If you are a part of Class of 2020, then you might be wondering what exactly spirit week is, and what to expect for homecoming weekend.

Spirit Week: October 3 – 7

Monday – NO SCHOOL

   Tuesday – Tacky Tourist Day

Wednesday – Red, White, and Blue Day (American Day)

Thursday – Class color Day

2020: Red

2019: Yellow

2018: Blue

2017: Tie Dye

Friday – Red Black and Bow Day

The concept of spirit week is to participate the most you can to represent your class. Each day of spirit week, a tally will be taken  to earn points for your class. The goal is to get as many people to participate in whatever theme day it is to earn points for the class.

The biggest day, is Red, Black and Bow day.  Each bow a person wears counts as one point.  Some students have been adding bows to their spirit wear for four years, earning hundreds of points for just one outfit.

At the end of the week, whichever class participates the most (combined with points earned at the pep rally) will receive the spirit stick at the pep rally, October 7th.

“The spirit day that I’m mostly excited for is Tacky Tourist day,” said Class of 2017 student Adam May.

Homecoming Parade, Saturday, October 1:

The Homecoming Parade will be on Main Street in New Market at 10:00 AM on October 1st. There will be various floats in show made by different clubs and organizations. The homecoming king, queen, prince, and princess will also be in the parade.

Hill Decorating, Sunday, October 2:

The hill decorating will be taken place at Linganore, October 2nd, Noon to 3 PM. Each grade will be assigned a section of the hill near the stadium. To paint the hill, you may use paint, or other objects to decorate. You may also add to the display in the morning if necessary.

Pep Rally/ Varsity Game, Friday, October 7:

There will be a pep rally on Friday, October 7th during first period. It will be held in the main gym. Two boys and Two girls from each class will be participating in games at the pep rally for a chance to earn more points for your class to win the spirit stick.

The Homecoming Varsity Football Game starts at 7 PM. Make sure to come and support our team as we play Oakdale. During half time, the official Homecoming Queen, and King will be announced.

Homecoming Dance, Saturday, October 8:

The dance is held in the cafeteria. Unlike prom, many students go with friends or alone.  No date is necessary.

For many, this is an opportunity to hit the nail salons and hairdressers, but others prefer to just do all the preparing themselves.

Homecoming is the opportunity to dress more fancy and to buy semi-formal clothing.

“There have already been twelve Linganore girls who have bought their dress from Deja Vu.” said Class of 2019 student, Shelby Tkacik, an employee from Deja Vu.

Snacks at Homecoming tend to usually be non- messy and will be located outside of the cafeteria doors, away from the dancing to reduce the risk of ruining clothing or causing spills on the dance floor.  Decorated tables are on Main Street.

“I really hope they will have Goldfish,” said Class of 2018 student, Alyssa DeVries.

During the Homecoming dance, the elected homecoming queen and king will have a special introduction, and walk down the center of the cafeteria, where the dance will mostly take place in.

Expect a lot of pictures to be taken while you’re having fun!
