Music changes every day, from new and upcoming artists like Meghan Trainor, and the “comeback kids” like Adele and Justin Bieber.  From the radio to your iPod, music helps people create memories that can last forever.  These 10 artists will influence the soundtrack of your high school years.

Number 10

The band, 5 Seconds of Summer has achieved another number one hit with their second album Sounds Good Feels Good. In its first week alone 5SOS’s album sold 192,000 copies. The four Australian boys are making a name for themselves in the U.S. The first single off their new album is “She’s Kinda Hot,” which hit number 22 on Billboard’s top 100.

Number 9

They are back again, Imagine Dragons with a new number one album Smoke + Mirrors.  They are 2014 Grammy award winners for “Best Rock Performance.” Imagine Dragons’ new album sold 195,000 copies sold in its first week. “Dream” a song off their new album, shows a softer side to this rock band. Even though it is their first number one album, I hope it won’t be their last.

Number 8

Upcoming artist, Meghan Trainor dominated the charts with her first album Title. With 238,000 copies sold in its first week, Meghan Trainor is a new sensation. Her hit song “All About That Bass” was number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for eight straight weeks. According to Billboard, “It also becomes the longest-leading number one by a woman this year.”   Trainor displays a positive message of self-love in her songs. She is nominated for a grammy for “Best New Artist” at the 2016 Grammys.

Number 7

Rapper Kendrick Lamar achieved his first number one album titled To Pimp a Butterfly, with an amazing 324,000 sold in its first week. His first album m.A.A.d City” debuted at number two in 2012, with 242,000 in its first week. All of the hard work Lamar has devoted to creating these hit albums has paid off. He is the most nominated artist for the 2016 Grammys, with a total of 11 nominations for categories such as, “Best Rap Album” and “Best Music Video.”  Kendrick Lamar dominated 2015 with hip-hoppin hits.

Number 6

Kill the Lights, more like “kill the charts” for Luke Bryan this year. With his new album, Bryan sold 345,000 copies in its first week. No wonder he was Entertainer of the Year at the Country Music Awards. His third album to debuted at number one, nothing is stopping this country superstar from kicking up the dust. “Strip it Down”, a single off his new album, became his 14th number one single. Since 2007, when his first album came out, until 2015, Luke Bryan is conquering the country charts.

Number 5

One Direction has been warming the hearts of teen girls everywhere since 2011, and nothing has changed four years later. Earlier this year, One Direction went from five to four members,when Zayn Malik left the band in late March 2015. That didn’t stop this boy band from creating one of their best selling albums. Their fifth studio album Made in the A.M debuted at number two, selling 402,000 copies in its first week. According to Billboard, “They are the only group in the 58-year history of the chart to see their first four albums debut at No. 1.”  One Direction may be taking a break but will be back and better than ever with new music to make their fans swoon.

Number 4

R&B artist The Weeknd, may not be able to feel his face but he he sure can feel success. Not only did his new album Beauty Behind the Madness  debut at number one but, it sold 412,000 copies in its first week. His hit song off his new album, “I Can’t Feel My Face,” became his first number one song on Billboard’s Hot 100,but he didn’t stop there. He replaced himself for the number one spot with his song “The Hills.” The Weeknd is nominated for seven Grammys.

Number 3

If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late is Drake’s hottest album of 2015, released in February earlier this year. The album sold an amazing 535,000 copies in its opening week. According to Billboard, “If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late is Drake’s fourth million-selling album, following Nothing Was the Same (released in 2013; 1.72 million), Take Care (2011; 2.26 million) and Thank Me Later (2010; 1.8 million).” Drake keeps slaying the charts especially with his number one single “Hotline Bling.” It can only mean one thing when Drake releases an album, expect another number one.

Number 2

After taking a much needed two year break, Justin Bieber is back with his new Pop album Purpose. In the album’s first week of sales Purpose sold an incredible 649,000 copies. Fans were clearly glad to hear his voice again. Earlier this year, Bieber had his first number one single in the U.S with his song,“What Do You Mean?”  Not only did he have his first number one single, but, he is also nominated for a Grammy for “Best Dance Recording” in the video for his song “Where are you now?” From making singing videos on YouTube to being one of the most successful pop stars in history, you could say Bieber will be alright.

Number 1

Even though Adele released her album late in November, she demolished the iTunes charts. Her new album 25, sold an astonishing 3.38 million copies in its first week alone. Adele says “Hello” from the top of  the album and singles charts on iTunes worldwide. This is Adele’s third studio album and her second number one album. Her first number one album was 21. According to Billboard ,”[25] has become the U.K.’s fastest million-selling album in history”. Her song ‘Hello” shot straight up to number one when released on October 23. Nothing is stopping this British phenomenon from topping all charts.
