The homecoming parade kicks off Spirit Week: Photo of the Day 10/10/2015
October 11, 2015
On Saturday, October 10, the little town of New Market was the scene of tradition as it hosted Linganore High School’s annual homecoming parade. At 10 a.m., the quaint streets were lined with spirited members of the community ready for the procession of students, faculty, and alumni to make its way through the town.
Participants in the parade included Key Club, French Club, FFA, drama, the equestrian team, the Alumni Association, the LHS band, the pom and dance team, cheer, and the New Market, Mt. Airy, and Libertytown Fire Departments.
Each class had a float, we well as a car or float for their homecoming royalty.
The Class of 2019 reflected their excitement at being Linganore’s newest students with the slogan “Our futures are bright.”
The Class of 2018’s enthusiastic cheers could be heard before their float could even be seen, and the sophomores succeeded in spreading their school spirit throughout the town.
The crowd was certainly entertained by the Class of 2017’s float, which showcased students dressed in styles reflecting different decades in time, such as the 1960s and 70s.
The senior Class of 2016 brought up the rear on their float decorated by a miniature replica of the Louie the Lancer statue, which guards Linganore’s halls.
Sophomore Brenna Lindsay said of the experience, “I’m proud to be a Lancer. There are so many great things to be a part of and our homecoming week is a perfect example of our school pride.”
The student-elected homecoming court made its royal debut. Morgan Kelly and Ryan Leyh represented the Class of 2019, Adriana D’Amore and Breyden Blakely represented the Class of 2018, and Taylor Thomas and Garrett Wiehler represented the Class of 2017.
Each pair of princesses and princes had their own escorts, but the Class of 2016 king and queen court made their own special entrance on a float framed by the towers of a glamorous castle. Members of the senior court are Neesa Conlon, Olivia DuBro, Maria Pellicier, Taylor Stone, Cassie Wheeles, Matt DeMember, JD Ensor, Noah Garabedian, Matt Watson, and Daniel Murphy.
“I had fun being able to represent the school with the rest of the court,” said Noah Garabedian, member of the 2015 kings court. “It was also nice knowing I had been selected by my peers to be there.”
The parade was also a double celebration after last night’s 21-20 victory over Oakdale and was a perfect way kick off homecoming, but it’s only the first of many exciting activities to follow. Below is a schedule of the many spirit days and events that will be happening at LHS this coming week:
Sunday- Hill painting
Monday- Pajama Day
Tuesday- Back to the Future Day
Wednesday- USA Day
Thursday- Red, Black and Bow Day and the homecoming pep rally during 1st period
Friday- Homecoming football game at 7 p.m. against Wooton
Saturday- Homecoming dance from 7 p.m. – 10 p.m.
There will also be a competition among classes to see who can earn the most points. The competition includes many spirit activities, like decorating a class banner and competing in lunchtime contests. Show your school spirit by participating in as many events as possible. Happy homecoming!
