Students and staff:  As you have likely heard a serious incident took place at a Frederick County high school last night.

A shooting took place on the school’s campus outside the gym, wounding two FCPS students at about 8 PM Wednesday, February 4, during a junior varsity basketball game between Frederick and Gov. Thomas Johnson High students. Staff and security personnel present at the game quickly moved to lock down the school and contact emergency responders. After law enforcement thoroughly searched the building and interviewed everyone present, students were escorted to meet their parents near the school.

In light of this incident, I am reminded that all FCPS schools are committed to safe environments for students, staff, and all who work at and visit our schools.  Today and every day, I appreciate that here at Linganore, our students and staff share that commitment and I trust we will all continue to behave each day in ways that protect everyone at Linganore High School.

Students and staff: it will be very natural for us all to want to discuss the events of yesterday as we heard them on mass and social media.  I encourage all to rely on official information and to refrain from speculating about the incident and those involved.

Our student services staff will be available for any students who wish to speak to a counselor.

Attention students planning to take an AP exam in May. The deadline for registering for an AP exam is February 20.  Please be sure to turn in completed registration forms and payment to Ms. Smith in the front office.
