Please wish good luck to Matt Earp and Luke Staley as they compete at the Frederick County Poetry Out Loud competition this afternoon at 4:30 at the Maryland Ensemble Theater in downtown Frederick. Stop by to watch and cheer them on!

The U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) at Ft. Detrick is now accepting applications for scientific interns. This exciting program requires a full 12-month commitment (June, 2015 – May 2016).To apply, students must be juniors, at least 17 years old before June 22, 2015, and a U.S. citizen. There is no exception to these requirements.  The un-weighted GPA requirement is at least 3.0. These challenging internships offer weighted high school credit.

Stop by C103 for an application packet or access the application on the school’s website.  Details about the program are included in the application packet.  Completed applications are due to Ms. Radil-Harris in C103 by January 28.

This is a reminder to all seniors scheduled to start Work-Study next semester–your work-study agreement is due to Ms. Radil-Harris today.

Also, a reminder to all juniors and seniors scheduled to start a new internship next semester–your internship paperwork is also due today. Stop by C103 if you have questions.

Winter fundraising packets are available for pickup in the band room.  Please stop by and get one as soon as possible.  The deadline for returning fundraising forms is January 21.

Sunday, January 3rd ,the Frederick Women’s Civic Club held the opening reception for their annual Youth Art Contest at the Griffin Art Center in Downtown Frederick. Of the 8 awards presented our LHS Art students won 7! All of the students who participated will have their work on display at the Griffin Art center through the month of January.

Art/Drawing and Painting Winners are:

2nd Place Winner: Emily Jones

3rd Place Winner: Katie Lamb

Honorable Mention: Maggie Hall

3rd Place Winner: Erin Formulak

1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners of the competition will have their work move on to the regional competition in March. Congratulations to our Creative Lancers!

And now for sports related news…

Linganore students have 3 opportunities to see their students play ice hockey for the Frederick Hockey Club Co-op team.  The first is to cheer on our varsity team as they play Walkersville today after school at 4:00 and the second is to cheer our JV team play Urbana on Monday at 4.  Then next Wednesday, 1/14, our Varsity team plays Urbana at 4:00!  These are sure to be exciting games!  All games are at Skate Frederick.  Come on out and watch the “coolest” sport around!

Congratulations to our JV Girls basketball team for their win against Urbana last night with a score of 41-34. Great job!

Unfortunately, the Varsity Lady Lancers were not as successful with their score of 39-60. They could use your support at their next game!

 

Be sure to come out tonight for the boys basketball game against Urbana at Urbana. JV’s at 5:30 Varsity starts at 7. It is a camo out. Good luck boys!
