Prepare yourself: The darkness is coming to Storybrooke.

The next episode airs March 1, 2015.

Once Upon a Time is more than a mash-up of fairy tales.  Now in its fourth season, with the second half getting ready to air March 1, 2015, the show is a full-blown addiction.  If you are just getting “Hooked,” here are my top reasons for tuning in to ABC at 8:00 p.m.

Reason 1: My favorite character would have to be Hook (Colin O’Donoghue). At first he was an amazingly handsome bad guy who would side with anyone for money. Then, through the episodes, fans got to see the softer side of him.  One thing for sure, he would do anything for the heroine Emma Swan (daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming).

Reason 2: It’s hard to read up on 90 episodes, but the best story line would have to be the finale of Season 4A when Regina (Lana Parilla, playing the town’s mayor and Evil Queen) let Robin Hood (Sean Marguire) leave Storybrooke to be with his wife and child. I feel we see the good in Regina. She is letting her true love go, when he could have stayed with her. She knew they could never be truly happy if there was another woman that he loved as much.

Reason 3: My least favorite character Marian (Christie Laing), Robin Hood’s wife.   She should not come back into the show since she did leave at the end of Season 4A. Even if she did dare to come back, she would have to die since the Snow Queen froze her heart.  Did I mention that everyone is cursed at some point?

Reason 4: Like all fairy tales, there has to be a curse.  There have been many curses that have affected the quaint little town. My favorite is the curse of shattered sight that the Snow Queen called down upon the people of the town. The result of the curse is that each person could see another character’s deepest thoughts or feelings.  It made me laugh to watch the characters tear each other apart using their words.

Reason 5: The trickster himself, Rumpelstiltskin, is my favorite evil character. (In German his name means “goblin.”  He has the most evil mind. The best thing about him is you think he is starting to become soft toward others, but then he does something shockingly mean. I was glad that Belle sent him across the border at the end of Season 4A, but you can be sure he will be back.

Reason 6: Although Season 4 is good, I loved Season 3 because fans got a double dose of evil villains. In the first half, we were introduced to Peter Pan (Robbie Kay), father of Rumpelstiltskin. Season 3 was also loaded with the love between Hook and Emma. Then in the second half, Zelena, the Wicked Witch of the West (Rebecca Mader) entered. The Wicked Witch plot included a lot of back story–now we know the explanation behind many of the characters who are related.

In case you are getting excited about watching the show, I suggest you look at some of the fan-created family trees.

Reason 7: Rumpelstiltskin says, “Everything comes with a price.” This is the most used and valuable quote in the whole show. It captures the theme of most fairy tales:  Don’t wish for something that later you will regret.

Reason 8: The weirdest episode was in Season 3 (Episode 21) when Mary Margaret a.k.a Snow White (Gennifer Goodwin) gave birth to her son (Emma’s brother and Henry’s nephew). It is just confusing that Henry is about 13 years older than his uncle. The family tree is interconnected.

Reason 9: There are so many characters, that when one dies, we just move on, but the saddest moment in the show so far was in Season 3 when Neil (Rumpelstiltskin’s son and Henry’s father–actor Michael Raymond-James) dies. He is the only one who didn’t let magic go to his head. The other fact is that Henry never remembers his father since a previous curse wiped his memories clean.

Reason 10: Rumors about Season 4B include that there will be plenty more revelations, shedding new light on villains.  Maleficent, Cruella deVille, and Ursula will make appearances.  More evil:  that’s just what we need!
