On Wednesday night, field hockey defeated Northern High with a score of 4-0 to move on to the Maryland 3A State Championship. Goals were scored by seniors Bailey Tregoning, Elizabeth Russo, and two by Sydney Cline. The Lancers were able to outshoot Northern 18-1. The Lancers have been able to dominate their competition throughout the playoffs, not letting in a goal and outscoring their opposition 13-0 in four games.

Senior goalie Michelle Weddle credits the team’s chemistry as a big contributor their success. “We’re all very confident in ourselves, and we like to work together.”

She said the team is always giving their best effort. “We always try our hardest to play our hearts out the whole game.”

Weddle mentioned seniors Caely O’Donnell, Bailey Tregoning, and Sydney Cline as the team’s top scorers and senior Natalie Rupinski as one of the team’s best midfielders.

Weddle said that junior Tanner Ridgely seems to be all over the field. “She’s the person that does everything. She’s everywhere.” As for Weddle’s defensive counterparts, she credits seniors Kelly Angeletti and Erin Formulak with helping to contribute to their postseason shutouts.

This Saturday the ladies will be heading to Washington College in Chestertown to play Westminster at 11 a.m. The girls lost to Westminster earlier this year with a score of 5-2 and are looking to get revenge.
