Roberts bring experience and world view to history
September 18, 2014
This is the third profile in Lancer Media’s Back to School Series: New Teachers.
Mr. Roberts is the new Modern World History and Government teacher.
He has 17 years of teaching Modern World History; he was a teacher specialist for social studies; and he oversaw the entire Government curriculum while at the curriculum office.
He recently returned from the, “best learning and personal experience” of his life. The “eye opening” experience was spending three years in Indonesia teaching for a private school called the Surbabaya International School, where he taught AP European history, AP Microeconomics and Macroeconomics and World History.
Teaching is in his blood for generations. His great grandparents, grandparents and mother were teachers. Since he loved history he decided to follow in the family line and teach what he loves. However, his family is not the only reason he became a teacher. The other reason Roberts became a teacher was because of his AP European teacher. His AP European teacher was Jerry Gilhoul at Walt Whitman High School in Bethesda, Maryland.
“Linganore is a fantastic school and the social study department is incredibly strong. It’s a real privilege to join this staff,” said Roberts.
Because of the schools strong involvement in the community, he wants to build a model of the United Nations. The program will meet with Roberts on Wednesdays after school in room A221 starting on September 17th at 2:45.
Roberts has two daughters, one is 25 and just finished law school while the other is 16 and attends Tuscarora.
