Linganore High School will host the annual Frederick County Marching Band Festival on Monday, October 13, at 6:00 p.m. (rain date: October 20). The event is sponsored by Frederick County Public Schools and the LHS Band Boosters.
The evening will feature performances from all ten of the county’s marching bands, and will conclude with an exhibition performance by Stevenson University’s Marching 100, under the direction of Mark Lortz. The marching festival is a non-competitive event, but directors will receive comments from visiting judges regarding the music, marching and visual components of their programs.
Linganore High School Director of Bands, Kevin Lloyd, is excited to be hosting the festival at LHS. “In addition to the tremendous effort of our band boosters under the direction of president Matt Brown, we have received great support from our curriculum specialist, Russell Beaton, LHS Principal Dave Kehne, and Athletic Director Sonny Joseph. We have also received a wonderful response from area businesses in the form of advertising and donations of equipment and supplies for the festival,” Lloyd commented.
A unique twist on the evening will be a non-competitive halftime exhibition by members of the Linganore varsity football team. Football coach Rick Conner and band director Lloyd have been friends for 25 years, and thought it would be fun to turn the traditional practice of bands performing at halftime of football games on its head. “We have a great relationship between sports and the arts at Linganore High School,” said Lloyd, “and we appreciate the character of our football players in wanting to support our band in the same way that our musicians support the football team on Friday nights.”
Admission to the band festival is $5. Employees of FCPS, seniors and children 5 and under admitted free.
