All Juniors! If you are interested in learning about science and computer science internships at the National Cancer Institute at Ft. Detrick for next year, plan to attend an informational meeting on Friday, October 17, in Frederick.  See any science teacher, or stop by C103 and talk to Mr. Brown or Ms. Radil-Harris for details.

Any members of the Science National Honor Society who are in need of community service hours can volunteer for the December evening shows at the Earth Space Science Laboratory in Frederick.  There are 9 openings available. See Mr. Sunkel in Room A139 if interested.

Did you know that The 2014 Nobel Prize for Chemistry has just been awarded to two American scientists of German descent (Eric Betzig and William Moerner) and one German (Stefan Hell).

On Friday, October 10th, the Tri-M Music Honor Society will be holding a school cleanup  from 2:30-4:30 pm for the annual FCPS Marching Band Festival. The festival, which will be held at Linganore High School on Monday, October 13th, is an event that every FCPS high school marching band attends. In order to show the community the best of our school, we will be picking up trash and removing weeds from our flower beds on Friday. We are looking for student volunteers to make this cleanup a success. Meet in the band room, D115, at 2:30. Students who are intrested can sign up using the online form shown below.

And now for sports related news…

The field hockey team took another step closer to being county champs and in securing a #1 seed in the playoffs with a convincing 3-1 win over Oakdale last night.  It was also Senior Night, so if you see a senior member of the field hockey team congratulate them for a job well done and for being part of such a terrific team.

The Unified Tennis team will play the Frederick Cadets at Frederick today.  All players should be in uniform and at the gym lobby by 2:40 p.m.  Good Luck Lancers!

The JV and varsity girls soccer teams will be traveling to Middletown tonight. JV starts at 5:30 and varsity at 7pm. Come out and support the team!

TODAY the Volleyball team will host Walkersville in their Annual Dig Pink match. Their goal is to raise awareness about breast cancer and to raise funds to support research for breast cancer. They hope you can join them as they recognize and celebrate the lives of those who have fought and are fighting so bravely. Wear your pink!
