Patrick Dougherty: Most likely to. . . march to the beat of his own drum

by Isabella Marcellino, Reporter

This is the second story Lancer Media’s Summer Series: Most Likely to… These feature stories highlight students who are becoming role models of Lancer Spirit.

From the marching band to the Academic Team to college courses and pursuing his Eagle Scout award, rising senior Patrick Dougherty is focused on creativity.

Dougherty feels that successfully completing AP Physics and AP Calculus this school year made him the most proud. Mr. Chris Hahn shifted his mindset to an analytical and scientific way.

“If I had to choose one place in the building to spend the entire day, it would probably be in a Project Lead the Way classroom,” said Dougherty. He enjoys using technology to create problems and solve them.

Mr. Mark Lastova and Mr. Patrick Greene have seen Dougherty grow throughout his high school career. Lastova said, “Patrick is always challenging us, asking tough questions that sometimes make us stop and think.”

Dougherty will be taking two college courses over the summer, a biology course at the Mount Airy College Center and English 101 at Frederick Community College. He wants to get a head start on college courses, so he has room for other interests in his senior year. He also wants to keep his mind active over the summer.

Uniform clubs and sports are Dougherty’s favorite activities. He enjoys performing in the Marching Band as the section leader of the drumline. One of his goals next year is to incorporate visual showmanship.

Dougherty’s mom, Patty, has been playing the drums since she was in high school. Dougherty enjoys having a musical connection with his mother. He also loves listening to music and showcasing his talent in front of an audience.

He also is on the varsity soccer team and has been kicking a soccer ball since he was two years old. Patrick really enjoys playing defense for the team.

Patrick is also involved in the newly formed Men’s Society. From this, he has learned valuable life skills, such as learning how to change a flat tire. Patrick, along with the other members of the Men’s Society, has completed many hours of community service.

Dougherty’s goals for his senior year include taking all of the PLTW courses offered at Linganore and creating analytical projects to challenge himself.

Junior Shawn Verma is one of Patrick’s closest friends. Verma said, “I can see Patrick being very successful and probably in a leadership position of some sort when he is older.”
