On September 20, the field hockey varsity girls competed against rival Oakdale High School, ending with a close score of 1-0, Linganore celebrating the win. The winning shot was scored in the third quarter.

The game started with Linganore pushing back against the defense and offense. Linganore’s aggression led to having 17 corners.

The second quarter led to having a lot of  tension between both teams, even resulting in a scuffle on the field. One LHS player was pushed, but the referees did not hand out a penalty.

The third quarter started with a bang. Grace Doy (7) scored the only goal of the game securing the win. The crowd shouted out as the first goal of the game brought on much excitement.

Grace Doy and Shaelyn Mackay celebrate the winning shot.

The defense played with,  the front and wing players consistently moving the ball forward. Some star players of that game were Grace Doy (7), Carmen Wilhelm (21), Camryn Thomson (8), Claire Thomas, Emma Watkins (4), Shaelyn Mckay (1).

“We all worked so well together Monday. Everything was going our way, from our passing to out awesome defense,” said Claire Thomas.

This well-played defense helped contribute to only having two shots on goal the entire game. Goalie Taylor Carroll only had to make one clear.

Though they played well and got the win, some players recognize the need for improvement.

“I think that our team did really well in our win against Oakdale because we had  good, hard passes that carried the ball up the field. Our team could definitely improve on communication though,” said Emma Watkins.

Varsity Field Hockey’s next game is against Urbana on September 27.
