Lancer Spotlight 10/13/21: Band shows its best in Frederick County Marching Band Festival
October 13, 2021
On October 11, marching bands in Frederick County gathered for the annual FCPS Marching Band Festival. The band stepped onto the Oakdale High School field dressed in the sequined red, white and black uniforms to perform their 2021 show Cinematic. The theme involves using music pieces, props and flags pieces similar to movie soundtracks such as E.T, Spider-Man and Casablanca.
Other bands performed including: Brunswick, Catoctin, Frederick, Governor Thomas Johnson, Oakdale, Urbana, Tuscarora, Middletown and Walkersville.
Sophomore flute player Savannah Macomber said, “It’s a very supportive community. I really like seeing other bands perform, and we always hype up other bands up when we walk by them.”
The band often spends over 20 hours a week working on their show, which requires the full effort of the staff, students and parents. Mr. Kevin Lloyd, band director, was pleased with the performance, telling the students it was their best this season.
“It’s a lot of hard work, but when you see it all come together, it’s really cool,” Macomber said. “There’s this one moment when you’re focusing on what you need to do and realize you’re not the only one marching. You’re actually part of this big show, which is really worth it.”
The 2021 marching season will continue through late October and tickets will be made available for purchase at each event. The next competition takes place on October 16 at Westminster High School. Follow along with the band at https://linganoreband.org/blog
