Science celebrates the holidays: Photo of the Day 12/22/19
January 3, 2020
Science got into the Christmas spirit during lunch in Mrs. Beth Ericsson’s AP Biology class on December 22. The holiday party started with students setting out treats and food from home. Students brought in brownies, cookies, and even 2 dozen Dunkin’ Donuts.
The party included other events such as a white elephant swap for students who brought in gifts. A white elephant exchange is a holiday gift-giving game where each person who bought a gift draws a number and picks in number order.
However, there is a twist to white elephant game, a person may steal a gift from someone who has already picked when it is their turn. The person who had their gift stolen may select another gift or steal someone else (items may only be stolen 3 times). Many students enjoyed the game.
Andrew Lyons said, “The white elephant party was something I’ve never done before, but it was very enjoyable and I got to hang out with my classmates and learn more about each other.”
The Christmas party didn’t just spread holiday cheer. The party also celebrated the humanitarian side of the season. During the holiday season, classes were encouraged to donate money to sponsor Christmas for children in need.
Ericsson’s class was able to raise about $125 to sponsor two children for Christmas, a ten-year-old girl and her little sister. Students were selected to go Christmas shopping for the children with the money to meet the list. Amanda Lindsey volunteered to shop for the adopted children.
SGA had a goal of supporting 61 children. With the Thanksgiving turkey drive, the Christmas child donation program is a tradition. If you want to get involved in the community, contact Mr. Jeremy Brown for ideas on how you can help and get involved in SGA activities.
