If you are not Among Us, you are alone

Every couple of years there is a video game that changes the industry: Minecraft, Fortnite, Super Mario, Legend of Zelda, and Call of Duty.

Everybody is sus.

It’s been three years since Fortnite came out, and we’ve been waiting to see what’s next in the gaming world. Lo and behold, a game full of jellybean characters and a rip-off of Mafia would be the next hug game. Among Us is a free game involving doing tasks as a crew mate, or killing off friends as the impostor. It’s a requirement to lie and blame other people, and it will have everyone questioning friendships.

“I like being able to play with my friends because its always funny,” said Junior, Emma Pratchios.

With an estimated 6.5 million players, Among Us has topped the charts in every category this year. Among Us has an average of 200 thousand Twitch viewers at a time, which is a 100% increase from the second most popular game, Fortnite. This is a dramatic increase as Fortnite has ruled the gaming world, and Twitch for years.

Originally, the game Fall Guys was the spotlight of 2020. While still popular, the game Among Us had a quick takeover due to popular YouTubers and streamers creating content for the game. The rise of Among Us’s popularity is due to quick access, since it is available on mobile phones everywhere.

Play as a crewmate while running around doing tasks, and try to avoid the killer. The goal is to figure out who the impostor is. Or you get the fun part of the game, where you go around killing your friends without a second thought. The impostor lies and deceives all the people around and will end in extreme yelling.

Arguing with people is one of the prime delights of Among Us. Arguing with friends is the most fun, and funny part of the game. It’s one of the main reasons we can consider this a generational game. It’s so incredibly simple.

When you run around to do tasks you should do what you must to avoid people at all costs. This way if you don’t want to end up dead you keep to yourself in the game. People love the simple things, you can pull off some of the funniest kills in the game as the imposter, or you can just blame anyone of your friends. This game can be played online with random people, but the true joy comes when you have ten of your friends screaming and yelling at each other.

If we were in school, this would be the game everyone would be playing when the teacher isn’t looking–it takes 10 minutes or less for games with 10 players or fewer–just the perfect brain break.

The simplicity is what makes it a generational game. The mind of a child could grasp it and have as much fun as the adult who plays the game. This game brings friend groups together, and it’s some of the most fun you will have. We all better enjoy it before the next game comes along and shatters this one.
