On Thursday, April 25th, Mrs. Bozzenetti and Ms. Geisser’s Digital Photography students visited The Smithsonian National Zoo in Washington, DC. The purpose of the field trip was to gather pictures of animals in their exhibits for their “Photographing Animals” project for class.

Each student in the class took a large collection of photos of the animals to practice the camera skills they learned in class. Using the correct zoom, focus, and angles, the students captured still photos of the animals focusing on the animal’s eyes. Later, they put together a gallery of their best photos and used Adobe Photoshop to make the images exemplary.

“Having the chance to be around live animals gave me an opportunity to try some new photo techniques and camera settings that I wouldn’t be able to try out without having this experience.” said Brianna Archibald.

The students took advantage of the placement of the animals as the reptile and ape enclosures provided close up views of the animals that were perfect to reveal the clear details in the photos.

“The trip really gave us a live experience of the animals. Not only did we get to see the realness of the animals close up but we got to see it through our own photography.” said Julian Rodriguez.
