From March 15 to 17, the Linganore Marching Band went to New York for their spring trip.
Arriving at New York on Friday, March 15, the Marching Band went to tour the Cathedral of St.John the Divine. Numerous pieces of art with inspirational stories were displayed around on the walls.
The group of students then went on a walking tour through Central Park where they stopped to watch a performance. After showing their drumming skills, the duo that goes by the Blu Funk Orchestra, let band director Kevin Lloyd play.
Next, the band took on the 102-story Empire State Building. After spending some time on top of the windy observation deck, the buses took everyone out to New Jersey for some much needed rest at a hotel.
March 16 started with a tour of the Radio City Music Hall. Students had the chance to take a picture with a Rockette. The band learned about the history of the center.
“I made many great memories with my friends that I will keep with me forever. I’m so glad that I got to spend my last band trip with this amazing group of people,” said Rachel Miller.
The highlight of the trip was the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade. The drumline played “The Cadence” and “The Boogie” until the band joined in with their parade song, “Patriots on Parade.” At the end of the 40 blocks of marching, the band went to dinner at Sbarro’s to refuel for a Broadway show.
Wicked featured actors Jessica Vosk and Katie Rose Clarke playing Elphaba and Glinda.
On the final day of the trip, the band had a tour aboard the USS Intrepid. The massive aircraft carrier featured a multitude of activities, including a section dedicated to what the ship looked like, an in depth video about the USS Intrepid, and a touring area of the top deck. Students learned all about this marvelous ship before heading back home.
The trip back went smoothly with the band arriving home tired but energized by the many memories they made.
