Frederick High is no match for girls swimming and diving: Photo of the day 1/4/19

On January 3, swimming and diving went up against Frederick High School and won with a score of girls 119-57. The boys lost with a score of 37-132.

The girls had a great night, breaking not one, but three school records. In the 200 medley relay the foursome swam a time of 1:55.77. The team is composed of freshman Lyra Garrett, sophomore Megan Brobst, sophomore Rachel McCoy, and senior Taylor Koch. McCoy broke another record in the individual 200 freestyle event the record now stands a 2:03.03. Lastly, in the girls individual 500 freestyle, Garrett broke the record with a time of 5:27.40. 

That night, eight swimmers broke personal records in individual events. A seven-second improvement from freshman Reed Dickson and freshman Emily Jonas in the 500 freestyle.  Brobst swam two seconds faster than her personal best in the girls individual 100 breaststroke.

McCoy said, “Considering the size of the team, I think that we’re all really coming back and beating the teams we never thought we would beat. We are really surprising ourselves as well as the other schools this year.”

The next swimming and diving meet is on January 9, against Governor Thomas Johnson High School, starting at 7:00 at (Middletown High School).
