On October 18, the drama club attended Dramapalooza at Frederick Community College, a county-wide theatre event that allows students to attend workshops taught by professionals in their respective fields. 

Keynote speaker Steven Younkins talked about the productions he has designed sound for and how he now works for the Boston Conservatory. He also talked about his comic series, Q2Q comics, and how it has given him many opportunities in the theatre community. 

One workshop that was very liked was the movement workshop taught by a Linganore graduate Karli Cole. 

The class started with students walking around the room, focusing on themselve. Cole then began to instruct students to experiment with how they walked, whether it be levels, direction, or what part of the body they lead with most. To end the class, she told people to start realizing that people were there and she then finished the class with people taking a moment to sit or lay on the ground and breathe and notice how they were breathing.

“It took me months to not care what other people were thinking about me, and if you’re not there right now, that’s okay,” 2012 graduate Cole said.

There were three college audition readiness workshops. The workshops were for the three main components of the college audition process, dance, song, and acting. These workshops are highly attended, they even have to cap off the number of people who are allowed to present pieces to adjudicators.

“My favorite workshop was the Musical Theatre Audition workshop, because I was able to have a mock audition and receive feedback on one of my go-to audition songs. It allowed me to pinpoint what I need to work on before auditions in the future,” junior Mackenzie Berry.

Another student favorite was the special effects makeup class. These workshops teach students how to work with fake blood and latex to create gory wounds.
