On December 14, the annual Lancer Candy Lane was hosted in the cafeteria and on Main Street. The event aims to provide a day of fun-filled activities and crafts for local families to get into the holiday spirit, and getting a free printed photo of a visit with Santa is one of the hallmarks.

Many honor societies set up booths with craft activities for the children as a way for members to give to the community (and earn hours for membership).

Mu Alpha Theta, Linganore’s math honor society, helped with ornament making. National Honor Society made reindeer crowns; National Art Honor Society had a face painting station; and National English Honor Society made ornaments out of Scrabble tiles and ribbon. The FCA made pipe cleaner candy canes.  And there were many more.

The newest honor society, the Business Honor Society, sold snacks to raise money for families who can’t afford gifts for their children. They raised a total of about $160.

The Secret Santa shop provided a way for children to shop for their friends and families with the help of student volunteers. Many volunteers helped wrap presents for the children.

“The gift shop hit home and the kids loved shopping for their family and friends,” said senior Kojo Benefo. “The line was just as long as the line to see Santa.” 

Home Depot also helped out, setting up tables for families to make wooden toys for the holidays. Some of the projects included wooden race cars, planes, and hot air balloons. 

The event is organized by Michelle and Keith Prather, long-time parent volunteers.  The cafeteria hosts hundreds of families from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
