Members of the Science National Honor Society and any other students at LHS can earn six community service hours by participating in a large-scale tree planting on Saturday, October 6 from 9 am to 1 pm in the Monocacy River Watershed. This event can be found on the Chesapeake Bay Foundation event calendar at the link below. Once registered, volunteers will receive a health form to complete and additional details will be sent via email.
The Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership event is open to sophomores interested in discovering and developing their leadership skills. Each high school can send one sophomore representative to the Memorial Day weekend event at Mount St. Mary’s University. Any sophomore who would like to be considered for the HOBY event should see Ms. Becker in the Student Services Office for an application. The deadline for the application submission is Monday, October 8
The Towson University Junior-Senior Honor Band will be held on the campus of Towson University on Saturday, December 8. Students who are interested in being nominated should sign up in the band room by Friday, October 5th.
GSA is sponsoring a guest speaker for the Lancer Lecture Series on October 9th. Kelly Madrone is the author of LGBTQ: A Survival Guide for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning Teens. Sign up during lunch with Ms. Lee or see Ms. Baker (B123) if you would like to attend.
Today in Hispanic heritage month we recognize Carlos Slim, a highly successful businessman, engineer, investor, and philanthropist. He was deemed the richest person in the world from 2010 to 2013 by Forbes magazine.
Spirit Week continues today with Wacky Wednesday where students dressed in unordinary and totally wacky outfits. Tomorrow is class color day. Freshman wear red, sophomores wear yellow, juniors wear blue, and Seniors wear Tie Dye.
Students wishing to have a quiet study hall during the Pep Rally may sign up in the Learning Commons by the end of school on Thursday. A limited number of students will be allowed. Students will be expected to work quietly on their own during this time.
