The boys varsity basketball team powered past the Tuscarora Titans with a 53-48 win at Tuscarora on Friday night.
The Lancers were led throughout by point guard Nicholas Lang, who notched 28 points with 3 rebounds and 3 assists. Christian Nolan added 7 points and 4 rebounds, and Sean Lang scored 6 points.
At the start of the first quarter, Tuscarora jumped out to an early 5-0 lead on Linganore. But the Lancers roared back, ending the quarter on top of the Titans with a score of 20-7. Nicholas Lang had 15 of his 28 points in the first quarter, as well as 5 three-pointers.
The Titans showed resilience throughout the second quarter, slowly cutting the Lancer’s lead with a strong inside attack on offense. However, Linganore was able to hold its own and consistently return with a bucket of their own on the offensive end. The Lancers had a 32-22 advantage going into the second half.
The third quarter proved to be entertaining from both teams. Although the Titans chipped away at the Lancer’s lead with three-pointers, good ball movement, strong post play by Christian Nolan, and a balanced offensive attack by Nicholas Lang kept Linganore the lead heading into the final quarter.
In the fourth quarter, both teams were plagued by turnovers. Neither the Lancers or the Titans were able to capitalize on the other team’s mistakes, with many missed layups on both sides. But strong defense in the last minute when the Titans were down by only 5 points solidified a Linganore win.
The Lancers now have two more games to go before the regional playoffs begin, and forward Christian Nolan is very confident in the team’s abilities after their win against the Titans. “If this team plays like we did against a good team like (Tuscarora) tonight, we have a very good chance of going far in the playoffs.”
The Lancers play their next game on Tuesday, February 13th at Middletown High School. The JV game starts at 5:30, and the varsity game starts at 7:00.
