On May 25th and May 26th, the Linganore Track and Field team competed at the MPSSAA Class 3A State Championship. Both the boy’s and girl’s team sent participants to the meet.

The boy’s team placed 5th overall in the meet, with a score of 42.5. The girl’s team placed 10th overall with a score of 30. Four students placed in the top. 12 Linganore students placed in the top 10 of their events, and Katie Gallagher, Myah Davies, and Carter Holsinger all won states in their events.

A week earlier, both teams competed at the MPSSAA 3A West Regional Championships. The boy’s team placed 1st, while the girl’s team placed 5th.To qualify for the state meet, all athletes had to meet a qualifying score or place in the top four of their regional meet. Below are the results from the meet, as well as information about the athletes who competed.

Men’s 4×800 meter relay

Lars Eklund, Allejah Seraton, Clay Buckman, and Will Cioffi competed in the 4×800 meter relay. They placed 5th for the event with a time of 8:06.67 minutes. This time set a personal record for the relay team for the season, beating their previous mark of 8:10.72 minutes.

Men’s 3200-meter run

Michael Belmaggio ran the 3200 meter run in the meet. He ran a time of 9:47.66 minutes, which was enough to place him 2nd in the championship. He has had a successful track season, running a personal best of 9:28.22 minutes and winning the Frederick County Championships.

Women’s 100-meter hurdles

Ani Boghossian-James competed in the 100m hurdles in the state meet. She placed 9th overall in the meet, running a time of 15.97 seconds. Earlier this season, she ran a personal best of 15.58 seconds and also finished 2nd at the Frederick County Championships.

Men’s and Women’s Pole Vault

Carter Holsinger jumped at the state championships and had a very successful outing. He placed 1st in the state meet with a jump of 13’9’’ feet. His win at the state meet follows up a state championship that he won during the indoor track season. His previous best jump in a meet this year was 14’1’’ feet.

Myah Davies and Sarah Moravansky both competed in pole vault at the state meet. They both thrived, with Davies placing 1st, and Moravansky placing 3rd. Davies won the state championship with a height of 10’00’’, tying her personal record this year. Moravansky placed 3rd with a jump of 9’6’’, which marked a new personal best for her on the season.

Men’s and Women’s High Jump

Lars Eklund, Xander McClure, and Colby Bannon all competed in high jump at the state meet. Bannon placed 5th with a jump of 6’02’’ feet, Eklund placed 13th jumping 5’08’’ feet, and McClure placed 11th with a height of 5’10’’. All three boys hit the qualifying height of 5’11’’ at the regional meet. Bannon jumped the highest height on the team this season with a leap of 6’04’’ feet, followed by Eklund jumping 6’01’’, and McClure with 5’11’’.

Katie Gallagher and Ani Boghossian-James both participated in the high jump at the state championship. Gallagher won the state meet with a jump of 5’07’’ feet, which was a personal best for her. Boghossian-James placed 5th in the meet with a jump of 5’02’’ feet. Gallagher’s win at the state meet comes after her equally successful indoor track season, where she also won the indoor track state championship.
