Hidden Figures plays for blocks 1 and 2 : Photo of the Day 3/7/18

On March 7th, freshmen and sophomores watched Hidden Figures in the auditorium during 1st and 2nd block, while juniors were taking the SAT’s.
Hidden Figures is about three African American women, mathematicians, working hard to get what they want. Segregation keeps getting in their way whenever they feel they have finally reached the top.
Main character Katherine says, “Every time we have a chance to get ahead, they move the finish line.”
These women worked harder and harder each day to be the best they could for themselves and their families. The women and their talents were an enormous help for NASA shaping the future of the space program. After all the obstacles they faced, they continued to push for what they believed in and changed their futures.
After the movie freshmen, sophomores, and staff competed in a Jeopardy! style game. Many students were shouting the answers and enjoying the competition. The three teams were asked a series of questions and then buzzed in if they had the answer. The staff came in first; sophomores were second; and the freshmen came in last.
Vice Principal Andrew McWilliams said, “This movie was a cross curricular activity that ties the schools focus and culture together in one.”
One purpose of the assembly was to free up classrooms and teachers for the number of juniors who needed to be proctored.
