On May 25th, Mr. Patrick Greene announced a new portion of the digital communications program via the morning announcements. The digital communications students currently focus on small scale productions such as promotional videos and the daily morning announcements, but will now which are created during the beginning of PREP, and played during the last five minutes of the PREP period.
In the 2018-2019 school year, the digital communications class will make the transition from a smaller PREP class to a full class period. This will allow the students to take on larger projects and create better content. The extended time period will also allow time for a new sports broadcasting program. The class will be taught by Mr. Greene during the first semester of the 2018-2019 school year, and by Roger Rich the second semester.
The new portion of the program focuses on sports broadcasting and commentary. The group of students will broadcast live and commentate many Linganore High School athletic events, such as the Friday night home football games.
The events will be live streamed and uploaded to the National Federation of State High School Sports’ website.
The program is in need of students to commentate and do play-by-play announcements, record statistics, and to run audio and recording equipment.
Class of 2019 member Chris Eastlake said, “This new program will allow students to view and experience events that they are unable to attend, so I think it’s a great idea.”
Greene says students who take the class and participate in the program, “will be able to gain an insight into what it means to put on a production, because there are a lot of elements such as recording stats, knowing who is playing, who’s on the the starting team, and being able to interview coaches and players after the game.”
There are no prerequisites for the class.
