Drama runs face painting booth at Mount Airy Oktoberfest: Photo of the Day 10/2/18

On September 29, members of the drama department and the International Thespian Honor Society put on a face painting booth at the Mount Airy Oktoberfest.
From 11 to 4, the students ran a station where festival-goers both younger and older could get their faces painted. For $1.00, customers could choose from a variety of designs, some of which were designed by the students themselves.
The booth was set up as a fundraiser for the drama department by drama booster parent Lynne Galletti in order to raise funds for the fall and spring shows. All theater students were invited to help out.
Junior Elizabeth Gilmore, who has been involved in theater since her freshman year and worked at the drama booth, said, “Spreading the word of what our drama department is doing is so important. We can spread the word of theater while raising funds for the drama department, too.”
The booth was decorated with pictures of previous shows so customers could also see what their purchases were helping to fund.
During her time at the booth, Gilmore spoke of the fun she had while also supporting the drama department.
“When I pulled out my phone to show the kids their face paint, their faces just lit up. They were so grateful; it made my day,” said Gilmore.
The drama department raised approximately $300 by the end of the fundraiser. These funds will go towards current and future productions.
To support the drama department and the International Thespian Society, consider seeing the drama department’s fall or spring productions: Almost, Maine and Beauty and the Beast.
Preparations for the fall play Almost, Maine are in rehearsal right now. The show runs from November 1-3, and tickets are currently available on showtix4u.com.
