The Tide Pod container stated to “do the Tide challenge,” which encouraged purchasers to remove tough stains. But leave it to teenagers to miss the point. In January 2018 a YouTuber made a humorous video about eating Tide Pods. Others made videos of eating, frying and chewing, and even smoking Tide Pods all for the sake of entertainment. It led to Poison Control and the Tide company itself releasing statements saying that it was just stupid  and dangerous. Ingesting these laundry pods can be fatal.

  1. Apple takes criticism over “throttling”

Clark.com

Apple received a lot of lashback from consumers around the world. “Throttling” in this case is Apple slowing down their older phones to prevent the battery from degrading so much the phone shuts down altogether. However, this wasn’t revealed until earlier this year, which made it seem like some sneaky secret Apple was trying to hide from consumers. And rightfully so after the news was released; Apple was hit with many class action lawsuits, it’s shocking they bounced back with the new release of the iPhone X and iPhone Xr. Lots of people saw it as a marketing trick to force customers to upgrade and buy a new phone and spend more money they don’t have. If you have at least IOS 11.3, there’s a way to turn off throttling in the settings.

After years of an on-again-off-again relationship with former Disney star, Selena Gomez, fans were not happy seeing Justin Bieber secretly, but not so secretly, get married to Hailey Baldwin, niece of Alec Baldwin. “Jelena” fans, fans of Gomez and Bieber, were so against the marriage they took to Biebers’ newlywed’s Instagram to comment how much they disprove, forcing Baldwin to delete the app and take a break from social media. Before she parted ways with the app, she said “I won’t let people make me feel like I’m doing something wrong by enjoying my life and being happy.” Even still they’ve been very public with their affection for each other, with no limit to their PDA.

  1. Logan Paul’s Suicide Forest video

Youtube.com

Suicide Forest, or Aokigahara, is one of the world’s most prevalent suicide sites. Signs at the head of the trails urge visitors with suicidal thoughts to think of their families and seek help. The forest is said to be haunted, so it wouldn’t surprise me that an ignorant vlogger, such as Logan Paul, would think visiting the forest and recording his experience would be a fine source of entertainment.

The video started normal at first, but after ten minutes into it you could see why the video received tens of millions of views before YouTube was able to take it down. The vlog showed YouTube phenomenon, Paul, finding a man hanging from a tree, focusing the camera, on his body, and laughing about it. Although the face was blurred, viewers saw it as a huge sign of disrespect and he was instantly hated. Since the Paul has apologized in videos, interviews, and even made a documentary, but it doesn’t seem he’s going to regain his fame anytime soon.

On June 18, 2018, Jahseh Dwayne Ricardo Onfroy, known to fans as triple X, XXXTentacion, or simply X, died at the young age of 20 when he was shot dead in Deerfield Beach, Florida. His music moved many. He focused on rap with rock/goth influences, the violent lyrics often times helping many out of a bad place. As soon as the news broke about X, fans immediately did their own sleuthing because they weren’t satisfied with the police’s sluggish progress on the investigation, making theories about any other people Jahseh didn’t get along with. All of these theories were proven to be wrong when a few days after the fact, police arrested and charged a 22-year-old Dedrick D. Williams with first degree murder. Even after his death, his music lives on with his family still posting music videos and teasing a second studio album that was in the works before his death, leaving fans on edge.

Kylie Jenner is a reality star who gained fame through the famous family surname: Kardashian. On February 1, at 20 years old, she gave birth to Stormi Webster with her rapper boyfriend, Jacques Webster, or better known as Travis Scott. For months fans speculated and theorized her pregnancy, but there was never any confirmation from herself or the family. They were quick to find clues such as her not showing off her figure as she usually does, dressing in baggy clothes and sweats, being the only “KarJenner” absent from the family’s Calvin Klein photo shoot, and only showing her face on a summer Vogue edition. The news was broke a few days after the birth with a picture of Jenner’s baby girl holding her thumb, and a short Youtube video documenting the journey that was her first pregnancy.

  1. The whirlwind romance that was Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson

Refinery29.com

Soon after Ariana Grande’s very public breakup with 2 year boyfriend Mac Miller, she was spotted out and about with Saturday Night Live comedian, Pete Davidson. From the beginning their relationship was controversial among the fans; most of them disproved of them getting engaged after only 3 months. A lot of other fans disliked Davidson’s dark and offensive sense of humor, especially when his jokes were made at the expense of Grande.

Although the relationship was a disaster from the start, their relationship led to Grande releasing a beautiful album, Sweetener. After she broke off the engagement in October and after many shared tattoos, she’s been working on another studio album and teasing more songs. Hopefully the new album portrays her heartbreak as well as the former portrayed her in love.
