Today in Black History month, we recognize Actor, Director and philanthropist, Denzel Hayes Washington. He first studied journalism at Fordham University but then took an interest in acting.  He made his feature film debut in the comedy world. Denzel Washington has earned popular and critical acclaim for his many roles in movies such as Philadelphia, Man on Fire, The Book of Eli, Malcolm X, American Gangster, Flight, Fences and went on to win Oscars for his roles in Glory and Training Day.  Denzel Washington is one of the great actors in his age plus he does good in the world with his money!

In the aftermath of recent events in Florida, Mu Alpha Theta is asking that Linganore be a beacon of light and strength in a time of sorrow. We are asking for anyone interested to write a handwritten letter of hope and inspiration to those students affected by the tragedy. These can be done in your PREP classrooms, cafeteria during lunch shifts and even in the Learning Commons with Mrs. Thompson. All will be collected by Tuesday February 27th.

The annual National Honor Society Talent Show is March 21st at 7 pm in the LHS auditorium. Sign-up to perform in the show outside room C-1-2-1 or C-1-2-3. Auditions will take place on March 5 & 7 at 2:30 pm in the band room. Themed baskets such as Movie Night, Lancer Gear, and Fast Food Gift Cards will be raffled off the night of the show. All proceeds to benefit Lily Weaver.

Advanced Placement students, in order to have an AP exam ordered, you must return your registration forms and payments to Mrs. Smith in the Assistant Principals’ office by March 7. See Mrs. Smith with any questions or if you need a copy of the paperwork.

WISE is a program developed to encourage females to participate in the fields of science and engineering; however, all high school students, male and female are welcome to participate. They meet tonight from 7 to 8:15 PM at the F-C-P-S   E-S-S-L at 2-1-0 Madison Street in Frederick. The featured speakers comprise a panel of members from the Greater Maryland chapter of Graduate Women in Science. For more information, visit the link below. No registration is needed! This week is National F-F-A spirit week. Make sure to stop by Ms. Beachy’s room in B-1-2-4 while dressed up in the day’s theme to be entered for a chance to win Lancer F-F-A wear. The theme for tomorrow is   western wear and boots.

Friday, March 9th is the quarter mania for the Linganore Tennis team in Linganore’s cafeteria. Contact Coach Kathy Becker or Judy Gue to reserve your seat for a discounted price at either of the emails below.

Several of the Linganore High school Swim Team athletes recently qualified for the M-P-S-S-A-A State Championships by excelling at their events at the Recent Regional Championships held last Saturday at the Fairland Aquatics Center. The Championships will be held at the University of Maryland on Saturday, February 24 at 4:00 pm. Good luck to Shannon McGoey, Richard Zhang, Taylor Koch, and Jordan Cencula who will all be competing in various events.

The girls 200 medley relay and the girls 200 free relay members, Jordan Cencula, Shannon McGoey, Erika Katsumoto and Taylor Kotch were also selected to compete in the championships. Good luck, Lancers!
